Peaches & Creme Cones

We have the new Peaches & Creme Cones in now. We still have not decided if we are going to carry the balls are not. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Our cones are $10.99. I find it very interesting that I told my sales rep I was going to have to sell the cones for $11.49. Then next thing I know they are lowering their web price from $16.49 to $11.49. Very interesting!!! So we decided to take a fifty cent cut on our cones. Our customers are worth it. But that will not leave us any room for sales or additional discounts on them.
You let me know if you want us to carry the balls. If we get enough requests we will carry them. We'll have to retail the balls for about $2.25.

New Website

I wanted to let everyone know about some on going changes you will be seeing at our website.

We are moving our product lines to
Yarn & Thread by Lisa.biz
I have it set up so you can shop at both sites right now and your purchases all go into one shopping cart. This way the shipping is combined. So if you want items from both sites it all goes into one cart and you are only placing one order.

It will take some time to get everything moved over. But since both sites are on the same shopping cart this should not be a problem. I did want to warn everyone though. Because when you look at the shopping cart you will see a difference in the way the products are listed from one site to the other. You will be able to tell you shopped at both sites. It's fine though. The shopping cart will still check out and combine everything just fine.

I decided to go with the new storefront to help with inventory control. The new program list how many are in stock and automatically updates the counts when something sells. This will make my job much easier!!

If you have any questions about the new site or concerns about the cart combining the two sites feel free to contact me.

Well, we finally did it. We opened a facebook page for Yarn & Thread by Lisa. When I say we I mean my wonderful daughter-in-law. All of you that know me know I am not a computer person. Yarn I know!! Computers....well I fly by the seat of my pants on that one!! But my daughter-in-law graciously took her time to set the page up for me. So I will post updates and changes there. With as often as the yarn companies make changes I'm guessing I'll be posting a lot!! I hope you stop by and check it out. You can "Like" us if you'd like. We have just started the page so it's pretty bare looking right now. Just give me some time though!!

A Wonderful Memorial Day Weekend!!

Well, I hope all of your had a wonderful Memorial Day Weekend!! We had a very exciting time around here!! After several trips to the hospital....days of walking, I think I know every nook, cranny, and crack in the hospital!! My grandson made his grand entrance on the 1st of June. Baby and Mommy are doing just fine. Of course Grandma and Great Grandma spent at least 2 days recovering!! I am now convinced that I am way too old to pull all nighters!! ha ha

And we have been playing catch up around here since Monday trying to get orders shipped and everything back in order.

Of course what kind of grandma would I be without pictures!!

New Peaches & Creme Manufacturer and their New Colors

Well, we have received a color listing for the Peaches & Crème yarns from Spinrite. All of the old colors will be cut. They are completely redoing the line. The new colors are pretty, but for those of you that have product lines built around the old colors you may want to stock up. Or look into redoing your products in the new colors. Right now the company has the original Peaches & Crème on sale. They've lowered the price 30%. So you may want to see if they still have your colors in stock.

We do have a color listing for the New Peaches & Crème colors now. We have not decided if we will be carrying the new line yet or not though. The price is going to be a bit higher with the new manufacturer. But I wanted to make sure you got a look at the new colors that are going to be available starting July 2011.

One last note. When cotton prices went up last quarter we absorbed as much of the cost as we could and did not raise the price on our worsted weight cottons. The DMC and crochet thread prices we did raise, but not the worsted weight cottons. As of June 15th we will have to raise the price of the worsted weight cottons as well. The manufacturer is raising their prices again. So will have no choice but to raise our prices. Between the rising cost of basic business expenses and the yarn prices increase we will have no choice. I just wanted to warn you. Stock up before the prices go up.

This price increase will effect the Bernat Handicarfter Economy Size, All of the Lily Sugar'n Cream Yarns and the Peaches & Crème Yarns.

New Colors

Hi all, Well, spring is in the air and new colors are popping up all over. Several of the yarn lines have new colors available. Everything from cottons yarns to acrylics yarns have new colors. There are new wool and novelty yarn colors too. You may want to take a minute to check your favorite yarn line to see if there are new colors available. We are getting them and I am posting them as I can. We also picked up a couple of new yarn lines. The Baby Boucle' which is now available in a large more convenient size and the Baby Blanket. Picking up the Baby Blanket has been a bit frustrating though. While it is a new yarn Bernat is already cutting some of the colors. I'm nit sure what they are doing or thinking on this line. It's a fun yarn to work with though. It works up soft and cuddly. I'm going to carry all the colors I can get my hands on though. Happy Spring to you all!!

Another U.S. Company has been sold. The makers of the Peaches & Creme yarn (Pisgah Yarn & Dyeing Co) have sold out to Spinrite. So now Spinrite will own both the Sugar'n Cream and the Peaches & Creme labels.

The sale will not take effect until the end of Feb though. Until the sale is final though Pisgah has all of their products on sale. 50% off everything except the worsted weight cotton. the dishcloth cotton. All of the crochet threads and fashion cottons are 50% off though!!

We will continue to carry the Peaches & Creme Cottons though. The sale is supposed to take effect the end of Feb. So sometime after that I should know what lines Spinrite will keep and what lines they will cut. I will keep all of you posted as I find out more info.

Now for the subject of Sugar'n Cream...they are going to raise their prices. I received a letter from Spinrite (the parent company for Bernat, Lily & Patons). All of their cotton yarns will incur a price increase of 11% effective March 1st. I will hold off as long as I can to raise my prices. But the cottons move quickly so look for the prices to go shortly after the first. Unfortunately since they will own Peaches & Creme by then you can expect that price to up too.

From what I understand all cottons will be going up because of a cotton shortage.

DMC Cotton Threads

Well, it's only chilly when I'm inside..it's flat cold outside!!

Real quick...I know you are all very busy!!

I received word that the DMC Cotton prices will be going up a bit. My sales rep did not specify how much for each line. To be honest my brain kind of shorted out after the words price increase though. Another price that is going up!! It seems like every time we turn around the cost on something is going up!! I did hear that it was going to be in February. So my prices will not go up until March 1st.

As always I will keep my prices as low as I can. But I did want to warn you on the price increase.

I just wanted to take a minute to wish all of you a very happy and festive holiday season. Regardless of what holiday you are celebrating this time of year I hope you enjoy spending time with family and friends!!

I've been busy knitting & crocheting kitchen sets for customers. That seems to be the hot item for us this year. They are so practical it makes perfect sense to me!! And I love making them. Making handmade gifts are always fun for me though.

The crocheted sets I have posted at the web site, Crochet Kitchen Set. I wish I had a picture of the Knitted Sets. Unfortunately I can not find the cord to my digital camera so I can down load the picture to my computer!! I use the Peaches & Creme cotton yarn and let the customer pick their colors. They have been moving like wild this year!! Hopefully I'll get more made up for the store!! I'm almost completely out of them now!!

Hi All,

We've added a few new items to our website so I thought I would give you an update.

For those of you that tat we have added the DMC Brillinat Tatting Cotton.

Bernat has brought out some new colors in the Boa. And they are larger skeins now!! It only takes one skein to make a scarf now!! You can find the new colors listed on our regular Bernat Boa page.

The ladies and I have been busy little bees!! We've added some items to the Gift Shop.

So remember if you want to give handmade, but you don't have time to make it yourself make sure you check out our Gift Shop. We try to keep the prices on our handmade items very reasonable. We make these items because we enjoy the craft. Getting reimbursed for the materials and a bit for our time is just an added bonus. I even have several ladies that resell our items to add to their inventory at craft shows without adding to their work load.

For all of our embroidery and quilting customers we've added a few new items!! You asked and we listened!!

We've added Iron On Transfer Books - These are booklets that have the several patterns with all the same theme.

Quilt Pattern Books - These are pattern booklets for cut quilts. Several of the booklets have some of those old heirloom patterns that are hard to find now!!

Hot Iron Transfer Collection - These are collections of hot iron transfers for quilts with a single theme. Like the 50 States or the State Birds.

And Jack Dempsey has come out with some new stamped items. You can find the new patterns by watching the Jack Dempsey New Items Page. I still have more items to add to this page. I'm adding them as I can so you may want to check back because there are more than I have listed there.

Sugar'n Cream Super Size

We have added the Lily Super Size Sugar'n Cream to our line. We have never carried this line simply because most you asked for the regular Sugar'n Cream. And since the cotton yarn colors in the Super Size were always the same as the colors in the regular size we just didn't bother carrying the Super Size. Well...Lily brought out some new colors that are only available in the Super Size!! We didn't want to miss out on the pretty new colors so we've made them available.

Price Changes

Well, we did it. We had to get a little creative, but we found a way to cut our expenses just a bit more. We did have to raise the prices on some of the yarns. But we got by with a smaller price increase than we originally figured.

The best part is that we were actually able to lower the price on other yarns!! So when you get a chance you may want to take a look.

From the looks of it I'm going to be able to lower the price on some of the custom order yarns too. I'll do that next week though.

We will continue to keep our overhead down as much as possible so we can keep our prices as low as possible.

I hope you have a fabulous weekend!! I know I will. My son is coming home on leave this weekend. He's been deployed since Feb. He'll be home for a couple of weeks before he has to go back. We're all excited to get to see him!!

New Handicrafter Economy Size Colors

But they put some of them up in the larger skeins. Of course there were some colors that did not come in. We should be getting more within a couple of weeks though.

Custom Yarn Orders

I’ve had several of you contact me with concerns about being able to get your favorite Bernat or Patons Yarns. Don’t worry, just because we are not carrying all of the Bernat and Patons yarns anymore does not mean I can not get them for you. I am still more than willing to special order yarns for you. All you have to do is let me know what you need. You can call or email me. I’ll gladly take your order over the phone or I can send you a PayPal invoice by email.

I do have to ask that you order by the bag though. Since they are yarns that we are not carrying I do not want any leftovers. I can give you a price and bag quantity when you contact me. If for some reason the yarn is not available I’ll let you know as soon as I know so we can go to plan B. There is usually about a week delay for special order items to ship since I have to order the items in. I order every week though so special orders are not a problem at all.

I wish we could still carry all of the Bernat and Patons yarns. But quite frankly we are out of space!! Our warehouse is packed. So we had to make some very hard decisions. Of course only the best sellers get to stay. And we are trying to focus more on the American made products. That does not mean that the other yarns are not lovely yarns. It just means that they do not sell as well for whatever reason. And we have to be realistic here. It just does not make good business sense to tie up a lot of money on inventory that is not selling well.

As soon as I get a minute I want to put a page up at the website to list the yarns with bag counts and prices that I can special order for you. That might help for reference sake. Until I get the page up though don’t hesitate to contact me if you can not find a yarn you are looking for.

And of course if we are continually getting request for a yarn we will consider carrying it on a regular basis.

Clearance Store & Several Changes

You might want to take a minute and check the Clearance Store!! We have several good deals there.

Now, let me explain what we are doing. We have been pondering the idea of moving to more U.S. made products. You may have realized that when we put up our Made in America page. And we have picked up several more yarns in the past few months that are made in the U.S. Unfortunately several yarn types and weight classes are not available in a U.S. made yarn though. Or at least when you look at it from the perspective of price for quality. We have always tried to carry yarns that are at least a decent quality and reasonably priced. Carrying yarns that the majority can afford on a regular basis has always been our goal. After all, what good is it to carry a lot of beautiful yarns that are very pricey butno one can afford on a regular basis?? From a business perspective you have to gear your product lines to the majority.

Last week we received notification that Bernat and Patons are in a position where they have to raise their prices on several of their acrylic yarns. Their price increase will take place August 1st. And if those 2 companies are in a position where they have to raise their prices I’m guessing other companies will probably follow. Some already have raised their prices. The first of the year two of the companies we buy from raised their prices and cut the wholesale discount by at least 5%. So we’ve had to take a good hard look at what we are carrying and with a price increase would we still buy that yarn if we were the customer.

Let’s take the Bernat Super Value for instance. That is our most popular selling worsted weight acrylic. The suggested retail price is going from $3.99 to $4.99. That means our retail price will have to go up to right around $3.74 a skein. I have to be honest here. I have to question if I would pay that much if I were the customer. I hate to say that, but I have to be honest. Although with everything else going up too, I guess it could be worse. But I'm sure it would make me stop and think, "Do I really want to pay that much" Now you top the price increase with the fact that it is not a U.S. yarn. I think I might be inclined to look to another yarn that is made in the U.S. So by buying American Made it keeps our yarn companies in business and keeps the money here in the U.S. So at least if I am going to pay more it will help a U.S. company!!

Since the Bernat Super Value is such a good seller though, we have not made a final decision on it yet. You are welcome to give us your feedback on the issue. We’d love to hear what you have to say. But the other yarns that are listed in the Clearance Store we have made a decision on. We are cutting them. We either have a replacement for them or there is a replacement available. In some cases the yarn is not made in the U.S. but it is a U.S. company so the money still stays here in the U.S.

For now we will continue to carry the Lily Sugar’n Cream too. While Lily is not a U.S. company they use U.S. cotton. The Lily Company purchases an enormous amount of cotton from the U.S. So sales from this product do support our U.S. cotton growers and processors.

We have a few more yarn lines that we need to seriously take a look at. And as we make our decisions I will let you know. Or just keep an eye at the Clearance Store. Because once we decide to cut a yarn we will list it there.

Anchor Embroidery Floss

Well, we finally got a handle on our Anchor Embroidery Floss!! We had so much of it to count each color individually was just impossible. We have sold some of it off and we always have a count on the full boxes for each individual color. So we are using that count now and clearing it out. We’ll pull from the open stock and then adjust the counts as we have to open the boxes. So for awhile there is more available than the counts actually show.

We’ve cut the price of the Anchor Embroidery Floss to $0.25 a skein

Of course we are limited to stock on hand and no other discounts apply.

And remember our Anchor Pearl Cotton is on Clearance too!! All size are $0.99 each

Welcome to our new blog. This is new to me!! Yarn I know, computers I do not. So I picked a blog that I thought was easy to use.

I wanted a way to keep everyone up to date with the lastest without sending out emails every couple of weeks. I know we all have busy lives and who needs more junk mail!! So now I can just post to the blog once a week or so and you can check the post at your convenience. Hopefully this will be easier for everyone.
